Tesla cuts prices nearly $2,000 in China, in line with U.S. cuts

Model Y cars are pictured during the opening ceremony of the new Tesla Gigafactory for electric cars in Gruenheide, Germany, March 22, 2022. Tesla has cut prices by nearly $2,000 across its models in China, after price cuts in the United States, as it grapples with falling sales and an intensifying price war for electric vehicles (EVs), especially against cheaper Chinese EVs. Tesla made similar cuts to the Model Y starting price, now 249,900 yuan, the regular version of the Model S to 684,900 yuan and the Model S Plaid to 814,900 yuan. The carmaker on Friday cut U.S. prices of its Model Y, Model X and Model S vehicles by $2,000. Tesla reported this month that its global vehicle deliveries in the first quarter fell for the first time in nearly four years, as price cuts failed to stir demand.

An electric vehicle of the model Y is pictured during the start of the production at Tesla's "Gigafactory" on March 22, 2022 in Gruenheide, southeast of Berlin. The plant could be worth $2 billion to $3 billion, FT reported on Wednesday, citing two people with knowledge about the plans. The EV maker will focus on the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu that already have automotive hubs, according to the report. India last month lowered import tariffs on certain EVs for automakers willing to invest at least $500 million and start domestic manufacturing in the country within three years. Modi met Tesla CEO Elon Musk in June and invited him to explore investment opportunities in India for electric vehicles.

Deliveries are the closest approximation of sales reported by Tesla but are not precisely defined in the company's shareholder communications. Tesla's Model 3 is about $4,000 more than that. Aging lineup, early days for Cybertruck While EV sales are still gaining popularity worldwide, the growth rate has slowed. In a push for end-of-quarter sales, Musk recently mandated that all sales and service staff install and demo FSD for customers before they hand over their cars. Despite its name, Tesla's premium option requires a human driver at the wheel, ready to steer or brake at any moment.

While all new Tesla vehicles have a standard driver assistance system installed called Autopilot, the company's FSD option costs $199 per month for most customers in North America. Tesla's FSD system does not turn cars into autonomous vehicles. According to the Tesla owners' manuals, drivers must remain attentive to the road and ready to steer or brake at any time when using FSD or FSD Beta. Owners with FSD can also get access to the FSD Beta system, which allows them to test and help debug newer driver assistance features on public roads. Under pressure from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Tesla has implemented voluntary recalls to improve the safety of its Autopilot, FSD and FSD Beta systems in recent years.

In a new interview, Elon Musk said prescription ketamine has been helpful in treating his occasional depressive episodes and suggested that taking the drug has been beneficial for investors in his companies. Musk was asked by Lemon whether ketamine could "get in the way" of his government contracts and his standing on Wall Street. Musk added that he originally mentioned his prescription ketamine use on X "because I thought, maybe this is something that could help other people." Lemon asked Musk whether he ever "abuses" ketamine, which the billionaire said he is taking under a doctor's supervision. In a short introduction to the Musk interview, Lemon said that he did not know exactly why Musk had decided to scrap their deal.

GRUENHEIDE, Germany (AP) — Tesla CEO Elon Musk visited the electric car maker's first European plant Wednesday as production resumed at the factory just outside Berlin about a week after a suspected arson attack cut its power supply. Musk was expected at a “team huddle” with employees at the plant in the Gruenheide municipality, employee council chief Michaela Schmitz told regional broadcaster RBB's Inforadio channel. Production at Tesla’s plant in Gruenheide came to a standstill on Tuesday last week. The power outage came as environmental activists have been protesting in a forest near the plant against plans to expand the facility. That has drawn opposition from environmentalists and some other local groups, who also worry about possible effects on the area’s water supply.

BERLIN (AP) — Power has been restored to electric car manufacturer Tesla's factory near Berlin after a nearly one-week outage believed to have been caused by arson, a network operator said. It previously appeared that the factory, Tesla's first in Europe, might remain without power until the end of the week. Production at Tesla's plant in Gruenheide, just outside the German capital, came to a standstill last Tuesday. It comes as Tesla's expansion plans for its Gruenheide plant have come up against fierce opposition. However, last month locals voted down plans to raze nearby trees to make way for the enlarged plant.

Tesla faces pressure in Sweden as workers at supplier to strike

Tesla has no manufacturing plant in Sweden but its electric cars are serviced at workshops across the country, where around 130 mechanics affiliated with Swedish union IF Metall began a strike on Oct. 27. Hydro Extrusions's Vetlanda plant makes aluminium profiles - aluminium alloys transformed into shapes, and is the first Tesla supplier in Sweden to down tools in support of the mechanics' strike. The carmaker told IF Metall on Nov. 6 it did not want to sign a collective agreement, the union said. "We want Tesla Sweden to sign a collective agreement... We want this conflict to be as brief and short as possible," IF Metall spokesperson Jesper Pettersson said. German unions have pressured the carmaker to implement a similar agreement for its 11,000 workers in Gruenheide, near Berlin.

REUTERS/Annegret Hilse/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsBERLIN, Oct 12 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) said on Thursday it will offer a pay rise to workers at its German plant, where unions have said they earn below the industry average. Under last year's agreement, workers at Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE), Mercedes-Benz (MBGn.DE) and BMW (BMWG.DE) were offered a 5.2% pay rise in June 2023 and a 3.3% pay rise in 2024 as well as an inflation premium for full-time workers of 3,000 euros ($3,160). German union IG Metall has previously said that Tesla wages were around 20% below those offered under the collective bargaining agreement. Musk also refused SEC proposals to testify in Texas, where he lives, in October or November, the SEC said. Companies Tesla Inc FollowBERLIN, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) lowered the production target of its German plant to 4,350 a week in July and August after hitting 5,000 a week in March, and plans to reduce it further, according to a Business Insider report citing internal documents and anonymous sources. Business Insider said pictures showing Tesla's internal workflow software indicated that the U.S. EV maker had lowered its target for July and August to 870 cars per day. The internal target had since been adjusted further down to 750 cars per day, amounting to less than 4,000 a week, the article said, citing unnamed workers at the plant. Business Insider said the company did not comment on a series of questions on the plant's output. Output hit 4,000 cars per week in late February, ahead of a production schedule seen by Reuters, but appears to have slowed down since then, according to the Business Insider report.

GRUENHEIDE, Germany, July 18 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) on Tuesday sought to assuage Brandenburg state residents' concerns by holding a question-and-answer session on the EV maker's planned expansion that would make its local plant the biggest car factory in the country. Tesla, which currently produces around 5,000 cars a week, hopes to double the plant's production capacity to 1 million vehicles a year and add 50 gigawatt hours of battery production capacity, though it has not provided a timeline. While Volkswagen still holds the highest EV market share in the region, Tesla is making its mark. Tesla has long argued that the plant's impact is relatively low and referred to the benefits of EVs in combating climate change. "Water isn't a Tesla problem - it's a general problem," said 68-year-old local resident Matthias Handschick.
